Our family went to the zoo over Labor Day weekend. Members can get in one hour early on the first Saturday of every month. It was awesome ... the weather was cooler, it was less crowded, and -- best of all -- the animals were more active! Ian enjoyed petting the goat but preferred to use the brush to dig through the dirt.
One of the highlights for Matt and Kim was seeing six little meerkat babies! SO cute! The zookeeper said they were one month old.
The giraffes were active,
and we got a nice view of the tiger!
Ian enjoyed looking over the fence to watch the construction of the Africa exhibit that's opening in December. (Construction trucks are almost as interesting as the animals!)

I loved the Houston zoo! We went on a field trip there every year in December! :)
