Sad News

At our 11.5-week prenatal appointment today, the doctors could no longer find our baby's heartbeat. It appears like our baby stopped growing around 8 weeks. We are sad and shocked and still trying to deal with the news. Kim has had no complications or negative symptoms and, in fact, has continued to have all of the "regular" pregnancy signs. The doctor's words were encouraging -- this shouldn't be an indication of future miscarriages; the baby most likely had some genetic malformations since the miscarriage occurred before 10 weeks; there was nothing we could have done (or not done) to prevent this from happening; we should be able to begin trying again for a baby within 2 months or so. We know God is good and that our baby is with Jesus, and we know that He will continue to provide for us in the future as He has in the past.
And yet, we're certainly grieving for this baby that we won't meet until we're in heaven.

We've scheduled a D&C procedure. The procedure should take only 5 minutes, and then we'll likely remain at the hospital for another 1-1.5 hours as Kim recovers from the anesthesia. We'd really appreciate your prayers for a smooth procedure and for God's peace during this tough time.
