Little Beakers

For his birthday, Uncle Jason and Aunt Amy gave Ian money to go to "Little Beakers," a science center in our area. They also volunteered to watch Ryan and Nathan during that time so Matt and I could have a special outing with just our oldest boy. We took them up on their kind offer one afternoon in July. What a wonderful afternoon we had!

We had never been to Little Beakers before but had heard great things about it from various friends. It was so cool! When we entered, Ian received a lab coat and lab "manual" filled with lots (maybe 30?) different science experiment options. After Ian chose an experiment he was interested in, we went to the appropriate area in the room to find the right materials. In the hour that we were there, I bet that Ian was able to do about ten different experiments (some of which are pictured below).

He made blue fake snow.

He looked at specimens under a microscope.
He wrote with "invisible ink." He wrote "Caleb" (the name of his best friend) and "I love Mom." ) :)

His absolute favorite station was the one where he could launch smoke rings. He did this experiment twice.

He made a Diet Coke geyser.
He made a circuit with potatoes and other fruit. This was probably his second favorite station.

 He made a bubbling concoction...
...and some stretchable goo he was able to take home.
What a treat to laugh, learn, and have fun with just Ian!
Ian asked Daddy for a piggyback ride to the car. Then, we told Ian that we wanted to buy him a treat like ice cream on the way home.
He asked if we could please get doughnuts so that we could take some back to share with Ryan, Jaden, and Cody. All of the boys thought that this was a great idea!
Thanks for the fun gift, Amy and Jason! We'll look forward to helping you get some special quality time with each of your boys individually as they get older, too! :)

This place DOES look so fun! Were there any experiments you were intrigued by that Ian didn't pick?
