Welcome, Ryan David

We arrived at Memorial Hermann Hospital around 6:30 AM on Thursday, May 10th. We paused for one last belly shot before checking in! We were getting so excited about meeting our little one!
Dr. Ritter broke Kim's water around 8:00 AM, and the contractions kept getting closer together and more intense until Kim was fully dilated by noon. (Kim's smile is because she knew the epidural was on the way ...)
Dr. Ritter delivered Ryan David at 12:31 PM after just four or five big pushes. Ryan gave a healthy, strong cry right away!
Matt cut Ryan's umbilical cord,
and we thanked our Heavenly Father for the gift of a healthy baby boy and a smooth, quick delivery!
The nurse got Ryan all cleaned up. Ryan measured 21.5 inches,
and he weighed 9 pounds, 12 ounces! What a big boy!
Like big brother Ian, Ryan was born with a head full of hair -- some of it even covering most of his ears!
Coming into this world was hard work! :)

Momma and Daddy were thrilled to start getting to know our littlest Schleicher -- who seemed alert and mellow right from the start!

Ryan's first "bath"
Grandpa and Grandma sent balloons and flowers just hours after the delivery. What a thoughtful and cheery gift! :)
A few hours after delivery, big brother Ian came to visit
along with Grammy and Papa!!
Ian immediately gave Ryan a warm welcome with lots of kisses and hugs.

And, of course, Big Brother wanted to hold Ryan right away! Ian's look of pride and fascination was just priceless!

Ian brought Ryan a "gift," a soft baby slipper that Ian had used as a baby!
Ryan had a gift for Ian, too. (Thanks for the good idea, Gottschalks!)
How did Ryan know that Ian would love a remote control car??

While Ian tested out his car, we all took turns cuddling with our sweet gift from God!

Then we posed for some pics of our newly expanded family! :)

Kim's dad baptized Ryan into God's family around 7:00. It was a special treat to have one of Ryan's godfathers (Kim's brother, Andrew) "present" on Skype for the baptism and to talk to godmother Sarah on Skype later that night. We'll celebrate Ryan's baptism in church in a few weeks with Ryan's other sponsors (Matt's sister and brother-in-law, Beth and Andy) present!

Thank you, Jesus, for the blessing of Ryan! What a sweet baby! :)

What a blessing! So glad everything went smoothly and all are doing well! I loved the pictures of Ian holding Ryan...he has the same look Henry did the first time he held Everett!

Okay, so maybe it's just my pregnancy hormones in overdrive... but I just finished reading your blog, and I'm totally weeping! What a little miracle! I especially love the pictues of Ian with his new brother. How precious! We are so, so happy for all of you and cannot wait to meet sweet Ryan. Praying for you daily...
