First Grade!

Ian's first day of first grade was on August 19, 2015. We had attended an open house the week before, so he already had seen his classroom and unpacked some of his supplies. As much as he enjoyed summer, Ian was also (at least moderately) excited about the start of school. He loved choosing his Star Wars-themed backpack, lunchbox, and water bottle as well as some brand new tennis shoes. First grade is the first year when kids at Trinity have to dress in dress code. For a boy that loves "comfy pants" and "comfy shorts," it was a little adjustment to have to wear dress shorts or jeans.

We got some first-day-of-school pictures prior to leaving our house...

Here's Ian in front of Trinity. First grade means a new building, too. He's now out of the Early Childhood Center and into the "big school," complete with P.E., music, and Spanish classes; a big kid playground; memory work and spelling tests; and homework most every night!
Ian and his best buddy, Caleb, who's in a different first grade class at Trinity, were excited that they almost matched in their red polos and navy shorts.
And here's Ian with his wonderful teacher, Mrs. Goedecke. She has been teaching for many years and is the wife of Trinity's principal. We think she's great.
Ian enjoyed almost every part of his first day of school. Unfortunately, though, within just a few minutes of being outside for his first recess, Ian fell on the big dome-shaped monkey bars and had to see the nurse. He had a fat lip by the time we picked him up at the end of the day ... poor kiddo! But he still talked positively about his day, only complaining that he missed most of his first recess since he was at the nurse's office.

We're proud of our smart and handsome first grader!

Ian's uniform really does make him look more grown up! You got some good pics! Does he complain much about the pants and shorts anymore or has he grown used to them?
