We continue to thank God for our newest blessing, little Ryan David! At the two-week mark, we took Ryan in to see the pediatrician. His stats are:
length: 22.25 inches (93rd percentile)
weight: 10 lb. 12.8 oz. (95th percentile)
We were thankful to hear that the heart murmur the in-hospital pediatrician had detected was completely gone! The pediatrician said that Ryan looked great! :)
Ryan continues to be very easy going and mellow. He doesn't cry much and is very patient with the constant attention he receives from his older brother. Ryan is a great nurser -- eating every 2-3 hours throughout the day and night. He is having more wakeful periods during the day, usually one longer wakeful time mid-morning and one in the evening. Sometimes at night he'll go 3.5 hours between feedings; other nights, he eats every 2 hours. He likes being swaddled, swinging in his baby swing, and being carried in the Moby Wrap. He loves stretching after eating. His eyes are starting to track objects better and better, too. He's especially fascinated with the blinds in our house and enjoys being outside when big brother Ian is playing.
Most of our second week seemed to be a big blur of sleeping and eating, so we were especially grateful for Grammy's help (and the chance to get a nap while she played with Ian). Here are some of the highlights of Ryan's second week:
more bath time to keep that long hair clean! Big brother Ian continues to love helping.
Grammy helped Ryan get all warm after the bath.
We went blackberry picking with Grammy. Ian picked the biggest, ripest berries,
and he showed them to us before eating them! :)
Ten-day-old Ryan supervised. :)
We all worked together to pick a lot of berries, which we eventually used to make a delicious blackberry crisp.
What sweet boys ...
... with a great daddy!
We got ready to have more family come visit. Ian helped Grammy make some of her delicious buttermilk rolls.
Grammy helped Ian make some cute (paper and tissue paper) flower bouquets to give to our guests. Ian was involved in all the parts -- from cutting the stems and the tissue paper to crunching up the tissue paper flowers to gluing them onto the stems.
Ryan does a good job taking naps during the day. He'll usually sleep between 1-2 hours at a time. (And we love catching him "smiling" while sleeping!)
Ian helped Grammy make some snickerdoodle cookies.
He especially loved rolling the dough in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
Grammy helped a BUNCH with cuddling Ryan, caring for Ian, and helping with errands and household tasks.
We took Ryan on a few errands throughout the week (only because Kim's mom was here to help! There's no way Kim would have attempted ANY trips with two boys on her own yet! ha ha) -- to the library, to a few stores, and to get Ryan's newborn pictures. He was a trooper!
Ian thought Ryan needed to hear a Thomas story before we left the library.
Momma and Ian took some time to teach Ryan how to play the board game Crackers in My Bed.
One of Ian and Grammy's favorite activities to do together during the week was building with foam blocks. They liked to build towers as well as trees.
Here's Ryan in his classic post-nursing stretching pose.
What an exhausting but fun week! (Thanks for all of your help, Grammy!)
