At the end of June, we set off on our big road trip ... over 3,000 miles in the course of two weeks or so. We decided to rent a mini van to hold all of our gear. We LOVED it! Ian loved being able to press the "magic button" to open and close the door. Matt and Kim loved how versatile it was -- how we could store things in the "stow and go" and put a seat down in the backseat to have more room, especially since Matt or Kim was always in the backseat to help with entertainment. Ryan loved dropping all of his toys into the space between his carseat and the sliding door, which made for some hilarious avalanches when we opened the door!
We never drove more than about nine hours in a day, though most of our trips were only five or six hours. The boys were excellent travelers! We had a huge box of toys and books for Ryan that we kept cycling through. He also liked listening to music, eating Goldfish crackers, and taking catnaps.
Ian was easy to keep occupied. We only made it through about half of the activities we had packed. Some of Ian's favorite activities in the car were making gumdrop/toothpick structures, playing car bingo, doing "activity pages," listening to books/books on CD, dancing to music (especially VBS songs), and watching occasional movies. He also took some naps!
Over the next few days, we'll post pictures from our various stops along our trip. Stay tuned .... :)

Okay, I may soon be stealing your gumdrops/toothpicks building project! GREAT idea!! I have seen it done before with little marshmallows but Caleb could eat about a whole bag of those in 2 minutes so we don't get very far. Duh, gumdrops would work and at least it would take him a while to chew those up! ha! :)
